Disc Form - Error Count Question

Post by Urk »

Hi,

There are two different error counts in the "!submissionInfo.txt" file.

I suppose that the one that has to be entered in the disc form is the first. Example :

    Barcode: 5 030931 031311
    Error Count: 591
    Comments: [T:VOL] FREEDOM FIGHTERS
    Contents:

There is a second one in the "Dumping Info" section. Example :

Dumping Info:
    Frontend Version: 3.2.1-00089b799c0d1e34c6a4aac4a7a4863c69810421
    Dumping Program: Redumper v2024.05.27 build_371
    Date: 2024-09-13 14:11:44
    Manufacturer: PLEXTOR
    Model: DVDR PX-716A
    Firmware: 1.11 (03/23/07 15:10)
    Reported Disc Type: CD-ROM
    C2 Error Count: 0

Can someone explains the difference between these ?

Thanks !

If I'm not mistaken, the second one (which is exclusive to Redumper CD dumps) is meant to be useful for Redump mods because it counts the C2 errors a dump has that are not part of a copy protection. Here's the GitHub issue that caused that addition.

So, if I understand well :

First Error Count includes discs DRM protection, that is to say errors caused by copy protection voluntary defective sectors
Second Error Count includes physical unabilities to read sectors, which probably implies "defective" or scratched discs

Thanks for your clarification Lugamo !

They are different types of errors. Your 591 error count is likely from ECC errors, that's why your C2 error count is 0.

For submission to redump, please ignore the C2 error count field, that's just to help us when processing.
