Hey guys, do you know any new drive that has the following features?
1) Supports D8 read command (for use px_d8)
2) Can overread in to Lead-In and Lead-Out
3) Proper pregap detection
My plextor just started acting crazy so I need a new drive.
Thanks
New drive recommendation
Re: New drive recommendation
Any IDE real Plextor (px_d8 supports only Plextor as I know).

But can you still buy new plextors? I thought it went out of line...
Re: New drive recommendation
Yes they are out of production, but sometimes you can find something on auction sites. By the way they are a bit expensive if you want it new or if you want the last model. I think it's the only choise still now to have a proper dump and to use px_d8 and PR.

PX-760A, also PX-755A or PX-755UF (the external one) are on top, only difference if I remember well is to the maximum write speed (PX-760A -> 18x - Px755A -> 16x).

Re: New drive recommendation
I meant the next best non-plextor

Re: New drive recommendation
Sorry I didn't understand. I don't know, there are some good drives around (my second drive - reader only - is a LG I bought only for GC dumps and it's good also for other stuff, reads lead-in lead-out. By the way also this drive is out of production).
Someone surely will have a better reply, but I think that with "no-plextor" you could find a drive which answers only at your "2)" point and in some in your "3)" (counting even plextors sometimes have no right pregap detection).

Re: New drive recommendation
Where do you live ssjkakaroto?
If somebody lives in France, and is interested in Plextor PX-760A, here is an eBay auction, current price 10 Euro, maybe you have luck and can buy it for less than 50 Euros
But if several are interested in it, arrange you and wait with your bidding, else you force up the price
The shipping costs are to much for me - 17,50 Euro to Germany.
