<EDIT TO REMOVE REDUNDANCY> Thank you for the info!  To be more specific GTA: Vice city stories [ULUS-10160] has sectors 828125-828127 zeroed out (this is viewing smallpad.dat, I don't know where to find the 828128th sector) when using DAX Dumper.  Using Filer, all the sectors are filled with data (and the 828127th is about 1/4 full of data).  Hmmm, so it is a waiting game for a new dumper?

BAH!  And on a disappointing side note, UMDGen does not "losslessly" (if i can say that) compress ISO to CSO.  If you compress, then uncompress the file, it yields different results... could just be a change in some part of the ISO header or something I have no idea about.  Don't know if it matters, but I find it annoying Image.  Anyone know of a program to compress and decompress without altering the original dump?

UPDATE!  One problem solved... not the most important one tho.  One can use ISO Compressor by Winnydows.  I have tried one image and it is the same when you compress then uncompress it.

Already redumped.

I've read some posts on 2ch, and found a method to find bad dumps without redumping.
In most case, DAX dumps are good. this will save us from huge redumping.

1. Open ISO with UMDGen, and check the layout of ISO.
2. Extract the last file in the ISO.
3. Check the last file in hex editor. If the last part of the last file is strangely zeroed, it's possible to be a bad dump.

The problem is that DAX dumper can't dump the last 2k or 6k, and some UMD has significant data there.
So, all you need to check is the last file.

And, it's confirmed by many people, hand-fixed isos (dump the last file with irshell or pspfiler, and fix missing data by hands) match pspfiler dumps.

So... I know some people don't like pspfiler because of [s]its slow dumping speed, no compatibility with older CFW and FW1.5[/s] or no support dumping via wifi/usb.
For such a people, DAX dumper is useful.
You can even use USBSSS, you just need to add 00s, as i wrote in No-intro.
You can fix the last files of the dax dump by hand.
It's not difficult, you just add the missing data in hex editor. (Need to be careful with the iso size)

Example of a bad dump in database, SMALLPAD.DAT of Grand Theft Auto - Vice City Stories (U) [ULUS-10160].

Now here's a question, I'm using a psp slim to do my dumps, getting 100% matching checksums when using Filer 5.5 for kernel 3.

One of the oddball discs I came across, Stealth (which has a custom demo of wipeout pure with a special set of tracks and ship) gave me annoying results...

Everything ripped fine from the game data... except for the fact that apparently filer skips the entire video subdir of the umd altogether.... repeated the process on a combination of fat and slim with the same result. Now, before I started dumping using the methods outlined here, I have used DAX dumper and the usb iso mode of modern cfw's to get the images (of course less accurate), and these methods dumped everything, including the video. Which is the preferred method as everyone seems to agree that filer is more accurate, although slower, and does this outline a larger issue with umd dumping altogether?

UMD video with updater and/or games are undumpable by any dumper except "Demo Disc for PSP Vol.1". CFW dumper can dump only the movie part and other dumpers can dump only the game part... We need a new dumper for this kind of umds...

I also have "Stealth feat wipeout pure", btw. Image

Just a suggestion but I think it might be time to update the PSP Dumping guide and remove Daxdumper as the definitive tool to use to dump PSP games and add PSPFiler 5.9. It's been proven that Daxdumper produces bad dumps and through my experiences dumping PSP games with Daxdumper it underdumps and also has trouble dumping data in the last sector of the last file. PSPFiler however does not have these problems and always produces a good dump. Here is a link to PSPFiler 5.9 for those few PSP redumpers out there Image

BTW I made a post about how to check if a PSP dump is the proper size on the No-Intro forums for those that are interested here is the link http://forums.no-intro.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1320

Hello Havikoro.

Would you happen to have the dump fixer dos tool (2K.00)?

The mediafire link for it, is dead:

It's just a 2048byte dummy file. You can generate one using psxt001z.

Code: Select all

psxt001z.exe --gen 2K.00 2048

Got some new UMDs and wonder what's the best way and best CFW for dumps as for now I have 5.50 Gen so the only way to run Filer is by eLoader which can't boot daxdumper.
My problem is that I also got two UMD which Filer can't dump as it tells me about 3/5 MB before end of the ripping that it can't read the disc, but the disc plays fine and they are new so no scratches or anything like that.

Since it's been a while since this thread has been update, are they any newer tools that are being used to do these dumps? I have a PSP 1001 with CFW 5.00 m33-6 and access to TONS of USA titles. I'm also looking for a list of missing titles so I know what to look for if there is one.
