Submitting CDs (newbie question)

Do we need a Plextor or the like to submit any CDs, or just audio/mixed-mode CDs?

The required program, DiscImageCreator or MPF which uses DIC, has a whitelist for CD dumping that is almost exclusively Plextors.
You won't be able to use any random drive unfortunately for all CDs.
There are experimental blu-ray drives that can dump CDs, but they are *not* recommended at the moment.
DVDs however you can use any DVD drive.
BDs can be dumped with most any BD drives as well.
