Are leading empty bytes important in data/audio dumps?

Like the subject asks, Are leading empty bytes in the audio tracks important in determining a 1:1 dump or are the gaps the only important part of determining empty space between tracks?

Gaps can contain data and often do particularly on PC titles.

Thanks Nexy, I was a little worried about that data getting chopped off.
