Elegibility of the Thumbelina multimedia CD-ROM

Post by Lugamo »

I've recently found a Spanish-language edition of the obscure multimedia CD-ROM for Windows 3.x by Epic Multimedia & Time Warner Interactive based on Thumbelina (more specifically the 1994 Don Bluth film). It features the cast of the Latin American Spanish dub of the actual film, but the songs are only in English for some reason.
It has three games, a painting game [krnl386_001.png] (after you finish painting the illustration, you can see it moving), a word association game [krnl386_005.png] (you are given some words describing things in a picture, and you have to drag them so they point to the right place), and a very basic puzzle [krnl386_007.png]. Not all pages are interactive. It's very similar in structure to the Living Books series, but with even less interactivity.

Here's footage of the English version of this CD-ROM:

And here's a picture of the disc label of the American release:

It should be noted than this Spanish release has the same serial number but with a "-SA" suffix, which likely indicates a South American release.

It's apparently identical in content to the Philips CD-i disc that can be found in the database here, if the sources I've found are accurate. I doubt this is relevant, but I felt it was at least worth mentioning it.

Eligibility is defined here: https://wiki.redump.info/index.php?title= … _Questions
For the following systems we only accept video games and video game related content:

IBM PC Compatible
The primary content of the disc seems to be an interactive story, which is not video game related. While the multimedia CD contains mini-games, they do not seem to be a significant component of the disc, and are not demos for retail games. This is a border case, but I would suggest it is not eligible.

That is not to say all Multimedia CDs are not worth preserving, just that they are outside of the current scope with redump, and not something we have the capacity to process and dat.
