To keep each name unique Redump and No-Intro typically denote a duplicate version with (Alt).
Examples:
Blast Lacrosse (USA) (Alt)
Monopoly (USA) (Alt)
Recently some titles have appeared with two versions such as:
ATV Offroad Fury (USA) (v1.00) (Rev 1)
Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas (USA) (v3.00) (Rev 1)
Is this a bug or a new convention to replace (Alt)?
Expected:
ATV Offroad Fury (USA) (v1.00) (Alt)
Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas (USA) (v3.00) (Alt)
New convention for naming duplicate versions?
Re: New convention for naming duplicate versions?
(Rev 1) is used if it is clearly a later release despite having the same version number (e.g. PVD or file datetimes are later).
(Alt) is used if they are superficially or ambiguously different.

Re: New convention for naming duplicate versions?
GTA has a comment explaining the difference (data revision with change in audio files, and revision multiple years later).
ATV Offroad Fury didn't previously have a comment, but I've now reviewed and compared them, and notated in the comments to indicate there is a timestamp difference between the two of several months.
These situations are rare, and because they did not change the version number, the "Rev 1" modifier is used to indicate the revision, with additional detail in comments.

Re: New convention for naming duplicate versions?
Thanks for the clarification. Just to play devil's advocate, what if something similar were discovered on a title that's versioned solely by revision?
For example:
Legion (Japan) (Rev 4)
Sega Classics Arcade Collection - Limited Edition (Europe) (Rev A)
Voyeur (USA) (Rev 1)
Appending "Rev 1" would become this:
Legion (Japan) (Rev 4) (Rev 1)
Or maybe the revision would be incremented?
Legion (Japan) (Rev 5)
Just some food for thought.

Re: New convention for naming duplicate versions?
When there is no version number, some systems use the ringcode to indicate which revision it is. If somehow there is a disc with same ringcode but different dump, then it would be (Rev 1) (Alt).
If there is no version number and ringcode does not indicate revision, then the revision number will be solely determined by the datetime of PVD and/or files. If there's three discs, two of which have the same datetime, then yes one would be (Rev 1) (Alt).
