I've tried again today, and (after lowering speeds and using some new flags) both DIC and Redumper were able to produce flawless dumps with the Plextor drive. I will submit it now, thanks Morlit. This thread can be closed now.

I only have one question, for now. How do I become a wiki editor? I can log-in, but I cannot edit pages. All pages say "The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: editor." Thanks in advance.

For disc condition, you can use software like VSO Inspector or CDCheck. The former is the one most useful, but in some instances, it will flat-out fail with some discs for reasons beyond my knowlege, so CDCheck is an useful fallback.
